Who we are

The Rome Drawing Academy is an informal group of architects, artists, and connoisseurs who support the study and practice of drawing in the classical tradition, especially as it was cultivated in Rome from the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries. Since Rome, especially as those centuries wore on, increasingly became the focus of study for foreign artists, the Rome Drawing Academy actively encourages artists to visit Rome and hone their crafts.

The Rome Drawing Academy’s website is a place for like-minded artists and connoisseurs to post observations, keep track of contemporary artists working in the classical tradition, and promote the value of classical drawing for contemporary culture. As a “virtual academy” it is a place to be informed and inspired; as a “Roman” academy it offers opportunities to see and appreciate the caput mundi.
